The
need for love, tenderness, play and fun are sometimes as important to
the healing process as modern day medical/surgical interventions. Having
a cancer-ridden, balding child connected to multiple IV bags smile and
giggle with excitement is a rare and treasured sight.
Recently,
a Happy Hat Day visit was made to the waiting room of the Surgical Center.
Here at their worst were parents waiting for news of their child's operation.
When Happy Hats appeared, we could all see their faces relax and their
demeanor change. If that wasn't enough, doctors and nurses wearing
the hats on top of their surgical scrub hats was enough to lighten anyone's
load.
On behalf
of the entire hospital, our patients and their families, I want to personally
thank you and your generous contribution to the well being of our children
and families during their healing process. The kind of commitment
that you have illustrates the true meaning of a community hero.
Sincerely,
Stuart E. Siegel, MD
